A Profile of the Webmaster John S. Nicol

                Here goes!

I was born in Aberdeen on the 22nd December 1946.

I was schooled in Aberdeen until 1962 at which time I joined the Royal Air Force as an electronics technician. The RAF was very kind to me, providing a magnificent training and posting me to wonderful jobs in: Malaysia, Oman, Singapore plus postings in UK to Chivenor, Lyneham, Locking, Brize Norton and Fairford during my 15 years service.

I departed from the Royal Air force in 1976 at which time I joined Marconi Radar systems as a Field Service Engineer. After 18 Months working for MRSL in Abu Dhabi I transferred to Marconi Communication Systems again as a Field service engineer.

Through a variety of evolutions of my past employers Marconi Communications (Now known as Selenia Communications), I have worked in Saudi Arabia, Scotland, Chelmsford, on board royal navy ships, in the North Sea on Oil/Gas platforms, and for the 21 years up to April 2005 I worked with the Royal Corps of Signals in the Falkland Islands. Since May 2005 I have become 'semi-retired' (see www.jsnicol.co.uk for more details)

As I am a Wildlife enthusiast my immediately previous location was wonderful, my personal favourites being the ‘Black Browed Albatross’ and the ‘Rockhopper Penguins’.  I am also an ‘off-road’ nutcase and the opportunities there are amazing for true off-road experience, with both my previous vehicles (Landrover 110 (V8) and Landrover Discovery (300Tdi)) I have traversed a large part of East Falkland and with assistance from friends on West Falkland Have traversed a large part of that Island as well.

The photographic efforts on the site are mainly ones taken since I acquired my Digital Camera (Nikon 880) Eventually I hope to scan many many more of my earlier photographs and post them to the site as well.

I have been Happily Married to Maggie since 1967 (Married in Penang Malaysia) and we have two children, Michael (born 1968 in Penang) (now married) and Tracy (born 1970 in Killwinning Scotland) (married on the 5th September 2003).

We live in Carterton in Oxfordshire which is where we decided to stay when I left the RAF at Brize Norton.

That is me in a nutshell. I hope you enjoy your visit to my Website. Constructive comments are always welcome either by e-mail or through my guestbook. Please remember this is an open site and therefore clean comments only.

Best Regards

John S. Nicol
